Transitional Rio Grande Blanket

$4,800

46” x 72”
ca. 1880’s

Field collected in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado and featuring Saltillo influenced design, including quartered diamond corners. This unique blanket has artifacts associated with Navajo weaving tradition, as seen in the raspberry crimson field that suggests fleece dyeing technique as opposed to yarn dyeing, producing a highly variegated background. Woven in two halves with wool warp and weft.

Condition shows minor end loss from long use, areas of edge thinning, and a few minor holes.
